I'm officially an Ex-Clydesdale

Long time lurker and have never posted here before but I have enjoyed reading the posts in this forum. Anyways here's my brief story.

On May 22, 2009 I went to the doctor for my annual physical I'm 51 years old and needless to say my Doctor was none to pleased with my Weight or Blood work. I am 6' 3" and my weight was 262 , Cholesterol was 277( Good cholesterol was 60) with high Triglycerides, Blood Pressure was 130/90, Fasting Blood Sugar was 130 My AC1 was 5.7% which is normal, i guess, I was told I had 90 days to lose weight or he was going to put me on medication. I told him I would lose the weight as I have a severe adversion to taking drugs. I saw my late parents take a myriad of different perscription drugs and vowed I would never do that.

Fast forward to August 31,2009 My official weight today at the Doc's was 199 , my BP was 110/70. I will get the results from the Blood work in a day or so and I'm praying to God the Blood Sugar and Cholesterol numbers have dropped accordingly.

I accomplished my weight loss by re-learning how to eat agian. My basic rule of thumb was if it doesn't rot or spoil I won't eat it. I learned what a portion of food was and it sounds funny but I actually learned to chew my food and not Inhale it. I eat 3 meals per day and 3 small snacks usually an apple or a few almonds. I began using a salad plate instead of a regular plate,it took about a week to adjust to the portion sizes. My breakfast food of choice is Steel Cut Oat or High Fiber Ceral with a Bananna. For Lunch I'll have a Salad with Chicken or Fish ( whatever I have left over from the previous night) and Balsamic Vinegar ( No Oil) . Dinner time is about 4 ounces of Fish or Chicken, Sweet Potato, Brown Rice or Lentils a vegetable and a salad. I have stayed away from Bread, Pasta and any High GI foods. Funny thing is I'm never hungry anymore I drink about a 1.5 gallons of H2O a day and I still drink beer, just not as much.

My excercise consisted of pedding my ass off on my Blue RC AL4. I have ridden 2500 milles since May 22averaging about 17 mph.

I try to ride 30 miles per day 6 days per week, the downside to this is I'm going thru a chain a month but it's been well worth the expense.

I haven't weighed under 200 since I dropped 40 pounds my freshman year in college( 33 years ago) and I was only under 200 for 2-3 months -tops, Think I'm going to try to get to 180 and see how I feel, Hey, it's not like I don't know how to gain weight , right Sorry I don't have any PICs but I can tell you I have lost 9 inches of my waist and went from a XXL Golf shirt to a Large. I havent been a Large since I was 15-16 years old???

Thanks for taking the time to read my story...Hopefully it will help some other Cldes struggling to lose the weight. Keep up the good fight and just keep peddling..

I will always be a Clydesdale at heart....just not in body size.
