I've considered equipping my bicycle with a mirror on and off. Growing up, having one was one of the many safety tips I learned. I know many cyclists who have and use them for this while riding. But each time before purchasing one, they have strongly suggested I not do so because 1) looking in the mirror would distract me from paying attention to the road ahead and 2) reflecting sunlight from the mirror could cause me to get into accident. Which to do; get the mirror anyway, or keep on glancing back whenever I need to?
