I should have mentioned, although I think a more cycle friendly environment is great, and increasing cycle share while decreasing motor share is a laudable goal, MY main personal goal is fitness. The bicycle is unique for me, because its efficiency and the way it magnifies human strength in a practical manner somehow energizes me and gets me pushing harder and longer than I could ever do with other exercise.
I also confess to a certain pride and just plain fun in riding in traffic and claiming 'my' roads. This is a very different agenda than many here, but does not have to be in conflict with larger, more utilitarian, eco-friendly purposes.
