I've given up trying to take my lowerpro bag on the bike. Instead, I pack a limited number of filters and lenses that I think I may need in my pannier bags. Also, when cycling, I don't even consider taking the tripod. However, I can bungee my Manfrotto monopod to the rack; it compresses to a manageable 2.5 ft.
