Wider saddles are usually "comfort" saddles while the narrow ones are race-oriented saddles. Cush is also there for comfort... so you want a comfort saddle with minimal cush?
Those cushy saddles may feel better on your butt, but like the guy says, they're just straight up bad news for your taint.
I'm pretty sure they're just meant for people who ride short distances in a fairly upright position.
