Twitcho- I would build up Open Pros or Alex rims, but I'm just not in love w/ the way they look. Call me superficial, but that's pretty important in this wheel build. But I also want something reasonably light. I am willing to take my chances w/ Velocity, but I have also heard some bad stories about their quality control. Hopefully I won't have an issue.

YO- Thanks for your input. Here's the deal: I am picking Surly hubs mainly b/c I want something w/ a smaller flange than Formula. Ideally, I would get a low-flange hub, but I can't seem to find any within my price range. I am getting the wheels built by a good friend of mine who works at a shop, so I am getting a good deal on all this stuff. He says I can get the whole build done for $200. Aside from phil wood, are there any good low flange track hubs? I have a very modern looking bike (CF fork, Jamis logos, etc) and I want to preserve that look by having lowish flange hubs. The Aerohead rims look so so so clean, IMO, and they are a lot lighter than deep rims. I will make sure to get all of the calculations right as far as spoke length goes, too.
