I added fenders to my commuter last winter even though I don't commute on rainy days (either of them
). No matter what time of year it is, it is rare I make it to work without running through a far amount of water. Mostly from people overwatering. It definately keeps everything a lot cleaner than running without and a few ounces of fenders aren't going to impact my ride enough to notice.
