Actually got an apology from a driver today... the bike lane I was in came to an end approaching an intersection where the travel lane splits into three, a left turn lane, straight through lane and a right turn lane. A line of cars just passed me on the left as the bike lane came to an end and I signaled that I was moving left to access the left turn lane. As I'm moving left, the last vehicle to pass me, a large SUV cleared a side street on the right, a motorist in the oncoming lane was stopped with his blinker indicating his desire to turn left, across my lane of traffic into the sidestreet. As the SUV cleared, he began his turn moderately accelerating briefly towards my travel lane; as I was moving left at the time and in the center of the lane, this was gonna be bad... He jammed on his brakes before actually entering my lane and to swerved back to the right avoiding a collision, but as I passed, he leaned out the window, waved and actually said, and I am absolutely certain I heard this correctly... "sorry 'bout that."
Probably helped that I was lit up like a demented inflatable snow globe, with blinkies in red and white and a bright orange cycling shirt on, and was following traffic laws, but I'll just chalk this one up to finding an actual nice driver on Long Island, other than myself...
