does anyone run a front brake with a non-machined surfaced rim?

does it affect braking? will it mar up the non-machined surface? will it leave brake pad residue?

for all dumb aesthetic reasons... i really like the look of a blacked-out deep v w/o the shiny brake surface. or should i just get 2 nm deep v's?
