Is this the norm for bike clubs? Or the exception? 'Cause I'd love to ride a club ride that rides at the time and speed at which they publish.

Full disclosure ftw.
Hi,

Interestingly, some people are complaining (and I really mean just a few) that our club's Saturday 'B' ride is slower than published. Mind you, the ride for all groups is called the Saturday Social Ride and the 'B' ride is still faster than the 'C' ride.

To the OP,

You noted that that you "approach[ed] a group of guys to find out that there are several groups that leave for that ride..." Was that group of guys the "love ride?" Did you ask them what time they were going to leave?

The last few years I've taken my bike with me on family vacations and found some advertised group rides. I've called the advertised ride leader before the ride so that I have a name of someone to look for when I get there. Generally there are several groups that leave from a particular location because of some of the things noted above (like group speed), but I've always gotten there about 30 minutes before the ride start so that I have plenty of time to find the correct group, introduce myself, and get ready. ALWAYS have had a good experience.

So it sounds like your intentions were good but that your execution could improve a little. Give it another shot unless solo riding turns out to be your thing.

Hope this helps.
