I want to know how they gathered the data. I live in San Jose and both bike and walk for recreation and transportation. How can I tell if I was counted?
It also seems wierd to compare san jose to san francisco or NYC. San Jose does have a large population but it is very large (in square miles). I can see how walking for recreation wouldn't be any fun in an area with huge skyscrapers as far as the eye can see...but san jose isn't like that. san jose also has a good amount of parks and MUPs and such. When moving here I thought that I'd lose touch with nature a little bit, compared to the small(er) town I was from. But I saw a bobcat in person for the first time after I moved here while cycling on a bike path.
I would think that San Jose would be lower bike transportation usage than in big cities though. I live about 5 miles from the nearest grocery store, and the closest drug store is only a mile, but most people are so used to driving their cars they drive that distance.Sheeeeooooot, people will drive from one end of the mall to the other when they go shopping!
