The distance thing usually comes with age. The average age of a Paris-Brest-Paris rider is 49. So when you reach the point where you're slowing down a bit, and like to just relax and smell the roses, and enjoy your own company ... that's when you'll feel more comfortable with longer distances. A few younger riders are at that point as well, but it's mainly older riders.
