Yeah, I am using the adapter inserts. My problem is more with the bottom "hook" part of the mounting hardware.
The purpose of the bottom hook is to keep your panniers from bouncing to the side while riding rough terrain. Just rotate it around to a point where it can clasp on to any part of the tara and then tighten it down. Sometimes when I'm riding on smooth roads I don't even bother to fasten it.
