I lived there for 2 years way back in 1987-1989. Bought my first road bike there at 'Ten Speed Spokes' bike shop. It was a Trek 1400 with Shimano 105 8 speed w/downtube shifters. I bet that place has changed so much since then. One day I'll get back. There was a long stretch of road there...approx 12 miles that ran along the water where the U.S. Navy ships were docked. That was where I did my first road mileage. Up and down that 12 mile road. Well..it was a long stretch to a new roadie. I also used to ride down ocean drive...where all those mansions are located. I hear the Navy has mostly left that place? I was active duty and assigned to the U.S. Navy hospital which sat right at the foot of the bridge(on left) as you were crossing into Newport from Jamestown. There were some great restaurants there. Yes I have to get back one day.
