As far as flex when mashing, I'm guessing it is more the worn out cleat moving around. I run CB Egg Beater SL on my road and Mallets on my mtb with no prob.
That idea makes sense..... thinking back, it's not really even the pedals that seem to be flexing, as there's just a lot of play (hence the thumbs up for the new cleats idea)
