Even if others called out the vulgar posts, I doubt if it would stop or change anything. Some are doing it for shock and entertainment value. There are many lurkers that are probably more reluctant to post for fear of getting flamed or facepalmed.
Maybe you can spread the word in the woman’s forum to encourage participation in RC. The <1% of insulting posts shouldn’t keep you away. If a post is truly vulgar, the mods should immediately pull it.
I try to encourage more women to leap and and participate all the time ... even if it is just simply starting by participating in the Weekend Ride thread, and then branching out from there.
But here's the thing ... women are concerned that if they post something, it will either deteriorate into something vulgar and insulting ... or that they will get flamed or facepalmed because they don't know the right questions to ask or right terms to use or whatever. There's a concern about both things.
I think women should just get in here and post ... and I also think that the mods should be right on it if it turns negative toward the women.
