I've read articles on the topic of today's young adults being more receptive to coming back to live at home. Usually referred to as the "Boomerang Generation."
The culture in place when I was hitting 20, back in the mid-70s, was that moving back home was to be avoided if at all possible. At 18, I went off to college about 1000 miles from where my parents were living. I returned home for 3 summers while attending college, and then that was it. I don't remember ever contemplating going back home. And I don't remember any of my peers moving back home either.
Our generation, as parents, seems to be more accepting of this than any that has gone before us. I should look up some papers on this, to see what experts think are the underlying factors in our different attitudes.
Not that I'm passing judgment on it. I know it works for many. And that many parents enjoy having their children back at home.
