Hmmm, that's surprising. It sounds like they overdid the "light" part if they are worried about it cracking the clamp. I still think if the installation torque is correct, it better not be a problem.

They probably did overdo the light aspect of the stem clamp. The clamp is heavily machined, so it's not surprising they put in a failsafe. It's probably more CYA than anything else - I suspect at recommended torque it would be fine. The stem/fork interface is immaculate and the torque spec is 6Nm. I had my LBS use their fancy Snap-On to torque it up.
I'll just use some carbon paste and call it a day.
