Painfully Slow Today...

I normally cover my 22km commute at 30-34kph (on the flats anyway). Typically 40-45 mins door-to-door. Always generate enough internal heat after 10 minutes or so to arrive at work warm but not too hot.

Well today, I accompanied a colleague who was doing it for his second time as well as a friend of his who was doing it for her first time. Both have new roads bikes: his an Allez Sport and hers a Trek 1.2 and only days old. At 6:00AM it was clear but cool at 10C. Fortunately, I wore a long sleeve under my jersey as well as long fingered gloves. I expected to do at least 22kph but for the most part we travelled at 15-17! 1 and 1/2 hours Essentially I saw myself as a saftey number, she with no lights front or back nor repair kit/pump/spare tube.

It was all worth it though to hear her express how beautiful it was to be out on the bike so early and feel so good. The world always has room for more cyclists!
