Degreasing and then lubricating right away would be a good idea. You'll find lengthy threads about which cleaner and lube/how often/what technique. For my part, EcoTech and White Lightning/weekly/Finish Line chain cleaner.
i have an sram chain on my bike and the lube they use is sh*t. it lasted for maybe 1 week and a half and then i had to clean and relube it. all i use is 3in1. after trying all sorts of different ones from specialized bike ones and even a teflon powder spray that worked amaxing untill it got wet...
