Same here. Last Saturday I led our shop's group ride on mine and we all had a fine time. The group drops me on the descents and I resume my position in front some time before the top of the next climb.
I don't see any need for getting huffy about these things. You either have use for it or you don't. I like mine as a training aide. This winter I'll remove the brake on the front wheel and take velodrome lessons.
