Good advice to avoid the big/big. That's a very bad habit to ride the big/big and then decide to shift to the little ring. It the road is turning upward and you're in second or third from largest cog, plan ahead and shift to the little ring, then 2-3 cogs smaller.

Frames with short chainstays can be more prone to this problem.

Adding a chain watcher is a good idea too.
