Really, do you think it's okay to ride in the middle of the street at all times? Re-read my original post again, there was nothing 100% in it.
Toledo isn't Ohio, it's a suburb of Detroit!

I kinda like riding on highways better than these narrow country roads...multi lane, wide shoulders, smooth pavement, road-kill snacks every couple of miles.

I think it is OK to ride in the middle of a lane if there is not room to safely share the lane. Yes, it's good manners to move over and make it easier for folks to pass you...but only if it is safe for them (and me) to do so. If the lane is too narrow to share, the other driver is gonna have to cross into the next lane to pass anyway...and cannot do so safely if there is oncoming traffic in close proximity, and my position in that narrow lane isn't going to change that. But what often happens if you hug the gutter is that the driver THINKS there is enough room to pass safely and attempts to squeeze by...putting you at risk, while you have given yourself no room to do anything but bail off the road and into the ditch/ravine/rail or whatever.

If the lane is wide enough to share, I agree, taking the lane for no good reason is rude. But if it is not wide enough to share, tough tamales...my safety comes first.
