Park 'n Ride got me into bicycle commuting. The drive distance is 18 miles and the bike distance is 6.5. In my area we really don't have any dedicated PnR lots but I do have a nice place to park the car behind a locked gated fence mostly in the shade in a well traveled area. So there's no concern about the car.

The bike route takes me through quiet neighborhoods and busy streets (with bike lanes). But, it's really an easy ride. It would be nice to rework the mileage ratio but I want to find a good place to drop the car.
