Its plenty steep around here in Western NC, yet I still see quite a few single speeds and fixed gears. I don't understand it, but its all about looking cool. As a training device, that I understand. But the single speed riders I see do not appear to be in training.....

If I was flipping purely for economics, I would probably take every bottom end vintage bike and turn it into a fixie. They go for about 2 to 3X what the bike would go for otherwise.
