A 3/32 cog is most certainly compatible with a 1/8 chain (but not the other way around). Are you sure you don't have your math ass-backward?

Those stock tires did seem a bit flimsy and I replaced them after getting a flat two days in. My wife needed a set of tires in a pinch for her road bike, she threw those on and hasn't had one problem. Go figure......
