I would start with a basic high ten steel lugged frame bike (one the hipsters would find attractive), a bike that around here would go for $100 to $120 totally rehabbed. Then I would keep my costs down, do the swap, market the bike for quite a bit more. If it does not sell, you can always swap it back.

I have sold a couple of the lower end bikes, like a Raleigh Rapide, that I bet the buyer changed to FG/SS as soon as he left. I've got several good candidates right now: a low end Superia, a lower end but cromoly Sanwa, and a couple of UO8 projects. But first, I need to move some MTBs.
