I hate that term traffic accident, it implies there is nothing anyone could have done to prevent it, traffic collision is a better term, it implies that two vehicles ended up in the same place at the same time. It does not imply that it could not have been prevented, because in most cases it could have been.
And I think that it is safe to say that in most cases that prevention is called paying attention to what you are doing, i.e. driving. Not talking on the cell phone, not texting, not sending e-mail, not changing CD's, not changing radio stations. I think that one thing that would also help is to have controls for the radio on the steering wheel, so that the driver doesn't have to take their hand off of it. Also no eating and driving, don't do anything other than concentrate on driving.
Not trying to sound like a Luddite or anything, but maybe we need to go back to cars with crappy suspension, no radio's, no "creature" comforts. Just "creature" comforts, just the bare basics.
