Gross negligence is a term that gets tossed around way too much. Simply losing control is not gross negligence. It may be wet out and the road is slick and you slide a bit, or you mis judge a turn. It happens, its a mistake, its an ACCIDENT. Are you 100% all the time 24/7? I guess everyone here must be and NEVER makes a mistake. I didn't think so... Gross Negligence is like speeding by a school bus with its lights flashing, driving drunk, ignoring a traffic signal etc.
If it is wet out then one needs to
SLOW down so as to be able to stop in time without sliding "a bit." If one is traveling fast enough to "mis judge" a turn then that is not an "accident" and the charge should be some form of negligence, as that is exactly what it is.
