Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.
First commute home from Summit to Highland Park. I rode to the Chatham train station, about a mile from work with some decent hills. I took the train to Newark Broad Street station, rode 2 hair-raising miles through Newark rush-hour traffic to Pennsylvania Station, then took the train home.
I'm a little apprehensive about riding in Newark every day. There's a light rail from Broad Street to Penn Station, but I think it's actually faster to ride it. On the other hand, people bike commute in cities every day.
Also, my bike is not shifting well. I suspect that the internal 3-speed hub needs maintenance - I can't consistently access first gear, a problem considering the hills near my work.
