It is also obvious that there are plenty of BFers that like to impose their opinion on others, and also like to make commentary about people they don't even know. If you want to pigeon hole people, you are in the right place. People who call others "Fred" because they are so As concerned about their fashion statements. I didn't even know about the term "Fred" until I joined this forum. Are people really that insecure? Go figure. Not to mention, I know you are just trying to yank peoples chains - so I won't take your comments too seriously. So, yes, no rational discussion.
I take a lock on a long road ride if there's any chance that I'll be stopping for anything (even to take a leak). I guess my background in transit cycling makes me aware that a lock weighing a pound or two isn't going to make or break my trip. And it's not like I've shaved every ounce of fat off my body anyway.
As for your little rant: Lighten up. Try to remember that Internet forums do get rough at times. This one is gentle and tame compared to many, but a lively discussion is to be expected. If somebody called you a name or treated you disrespectfully, you should report it to a moderator.
As for "Fred", this is a common cycling term that seems to be declining in popularity. I don't like it much either, but it definitely wasn't invented or popularized on BF. I remember people using it long before Al Gore invented the internet.
