We cycled a few times in Mexico in the early 80s including a self supported tour. Mexicans (at least then) considered cycling a sport and we really nice to us and helpful. The roads are a crap shoot. I was to Cabo once on a cruise for a few hours. If you speak Spanish, just head toward La Paz and figure it out as you go.
