I would also be really skeptical of a shop that can offer a significant discount on a bike from the current model year. I've always been under the impression that LBS margins on bikes are pretty small, so they don't have much room to bargain. They make most of their profits on service, parts, clothing, and accessories. Many shops in my area give members of local clubs 10%-15% off on that stuff, but not on bikes. I sometimes see bikes from previous model years discounted.

The best site I've seen for comparing prices on cycling gear is www.qbike.com.
