Ok Rode them today again, Below is a review of them.
Again, Since the bikes both have rival, im more reviewing the frames.
Trek Madone 5.2 Pro
Got on the bike and set out. Did the 20 mile rounder again. 21.5 average today, felt strong it was great, other than going almost numb. Bike Felt planted, solid and confident. Accelerating is just something else. If anything envokes emotion on this bike, its the sheer performance. hill climbs are great, other than getting used to running a double, the bike just goes up hills, weighing in a 17 pounds with out pedals, its almost 6 pounds lighter than my allez, and I can feel the difference. The Compliance of the bike was great, Rode both bikes with my toupe saddle to take that out of the equation, but the bumps and jumps were taken with an amazing amount of smoothness.
Specialized Tarmac Comp
Same route again(getting very bored of this route) 21.5 average as well(reset speedo after trek) Again Very Planted solid bike. Though not quite as confident in the corners with it. Hill clibs were great as well, up to par with the trek but not surpassing it either. Bike weighed 17.9 pounds without pedals. Frame Compliance was good, though power transfer doesnt seem quite the same, dont seem to get as much jump from the pedal stroke. Steering is very skittery though.
Other stuff
Like I said before, both bikes are good looking machines. But the Trek Takes the cake with is two tone paint job set to accentuate the shape of the frame. The specialized has better looking wheels, Im not a huge fan of the matched spoke Race Lites.
Final Verdict
Both Bikes are amazing. But with the more solid steering in the trek, and the Paint on the trek I put money down on the trek 5.2 Project 1. Though it was so close. Its taken me almost 3 months to wittle my way through the choices out there in the bike world.
My thoughts on the Group Set
as I said, Both bikes were outfitted with Rival Compact Double 10 speed Group Sets. Coming from sora, Anything is an improvement, but with all the bikes ive ridden recently, I have to say that rival is amazingly crisp and fast. the only thing Ive had that seemed to shift better was Sram red, A close second being dura ace DI. Srams group sets are awesome. The rival is crisp and solid. Some people dont like the loud click of the shifters but I do, makes it easy. The cross compatiblity of the sram groups makes it nice as well. Id place these in the ultegra SL Level even with the difference in price. The Double click takes about 3 minutes to get used to. Had a couple of missshifts early on, but after now having about 400 miles on various Sram Set ups, Its become second nature. Highly recommend them.
Now Im off to my 2 hour pro fit time on my new 5.2! Ill post pics when I get it home!
