Actually, anyone who's willing to put in an hour or two mounting lights can mount a Nova Bull. I've got a Dinotte 140L and am thinking about moving to a Bull. They're probably on par with the 400L, maybe even brighter, have more flash modes, and are $60 (but you have to mount them and provide 12 volts, by the time you're done with that you've probably spent about $120 including shipping if you buy a LiIon pack and charger, and have the equivalent of a $270 light from Dinotte. But it does take some work to do, probably 3 or 4 hours if you do a really nice job.

I suspect that we may see something similar (300 lumen red strobe taillight for bikes) from someone like Magicshine for <$100 soon. It'd be nice if it were here for this winter, but time is pretty short for that now.

The Bull is commonly used on police and other emergency vehicles. It's not possible to miss without a concerted effort to do so. They are about as bright as the Dinotte in the center of the beam, but their beam throws out for many, many degrees, with some light out > 180*, and a hot spot that's probably at least 90* wide.

EDIT: turns out that the Bull is putting out 138 lumens, so it's about equivalent to the 140L, BUT it has a much wider, more useful pattern and many more strobe modes, though I don't like any of them as well as the Dinotte's modes.

However, Nova also now makes the SD24, which only costs $75, and puts out 360 lumens in the red version. Hmm.
