I don't think I'd get the V's. If you get V's and want to upgrade the fork later on, you'd either have to find one with V mounts or upgrade to discs at the same time. The other thing is it's usually more economical to buy the better components up front than to try to upgrade later on. Honestly though, if it's your first real mountain bike, you're not going to notice many of the little componentry differences. Figure out how much you're willing to spend, spend as much as you can without blowing your budget, and upgrade it as things break.
