I will listen to music when I skate ski in the winter, especially if I am just out to blast it hard for an hour or so. But frequently I am out to experience the quiet and serenity of the high country in the winter.
If you don't want to listen to music that is a personal decision, but the "OMG you're gonna die if you listen to music while riding" people are idiots. Maybe some people are incapable of doing it, but plenty of us get by just fine.
