haha, well..yeah, i do think bikes look better without fenders, but it's more important for me to be able to ride at decent speeds in wet conditions. i was only hoping there is some secret aspect of avoiding getting all muddy without using fenders since there are so many bikes not using them.thanks for the plentiful of replies!
