As far as being necessary goes, I'm not really sure. I'm taking my frame in to get a powder coat and am in the process of stripping the frame. (This is what brought on my mess to begin with).
That being said, will it be okay to leave it on there, or will the extreme heat from the powder coat screw up those components?
Heat won't hurt it and the coater should be able to mask it for you.
