It's entirely possible to kick up a big rock and chip the paint on the first ride. It's not a defect or something to whine to the seller or manufacturer about.
The clearcoat (paint) and carbon layup have nothing to do with each other.
I have three look frames and none of them have ever got a chip in the down tube. One has been in three wrecks and still hasn't got a scratch on it.
LOOK has a least a 1 year warranty on the paint and they are good about replacing frames if there is truly a defect.
I ran over a large bent nail this year. It cut a 2cm long gash in the tire, poked a hole through the center of the rim and another through the side of the rim. It also spun around and scratched my rear brake and chipped the paint on the two of the stays. The wheel was a top of the line Fulcrum Zero and the frame a LOOK 585 with a very limited edition red paint scheme. Too bad for me, but it was all repairable.
