The reason I don't follow all laws is so that I can put myself where the traffic isn't. I'll be on the same stretch of street as everyone else, but not at the same time as they are. Safer for me, and ultimately less aggravating for them.
Sure technically it applies to all vehicles... but only cyclists actually feel the whole effort. For motorists, it is simply a lift of the leg, flick of the ankle, while ensconced in a quite comfortable chair, listening to music of choice, often surrounded by climate controlled comfort.
Oh how tough it can be to drive.
