Not sure about legality. Most codes specify white light or reflector for the front of the bike and red light or reflector for the rear. Never seen anything mentioning side lighting for a bicycle.

That being said, it looks like overkill, extra weight, and complications. How about a couple of Planet Bike Superflash lights mounted sideways?
