Removing stickers -- how?

I want to do a rattle-can paint-job on an old, Huffy frame. I'm having trouble removing the stickers that are on the top- and down-tubes. I'm talking here about the clear plastic stickers with the Huffy branding and logos, that have been there for probably a decade or more (the bike is a five-speed).

The stickers are above the paint, but they pretty much fall apart as I peel them. I have trouble catching an edge. When I do, I might only tear off a 1-inch long piece that is maybe 1/8" wide. At that rate, removing the stickers will take all winter.

I'm looking for other ideas. Is there some faster method for removing those stickers?
