Because it makes a statement; it tells people that you are a good rider with better than average skills.
At least thats what Pochtecatl told me. Hell it doesn't make sense on a trail bike either. I have ripped 2 XTs off in a matter of 2 weeks. That was last year. One broke in half and ruined a rear XTR wheel. The other I was able to bend back and use. I still use it now.
