Mechanic advice: How can I tell if my mountain bike derailer is bent? I was riding over to the Don Valley on the weekend and my bike was making some serious noise. I looked and it didn't look as though the chain was entering the derailer straight. If I was in the smallest cog and biggest chainring it was fine, but going to a bigger cog caused the problem.
Is the derailer shot?
Hard to diagnose with so little info/visuals but one of either bent hanger, mis-adjusted or pooched derailleur, shot housing and/or cable...all of the above?
