I think you read wrong. If we call it a seat in the states, that's what I'll call it when I'm there. When I'm riding with my mates here, it's a saddle, a rear mech, and bidon, etc. If I walked into your LBS and asked for a bidon, they'd look at me funny. I'll stick with the local name/pronunciation, as long as it's commonly accepted, right or wrong.
I don't think there is any 'right' or 'wrong' for what you're talking about, just local usage.
