Marty, sore back? too hard to pedal? How is it too hard to pedal exactly, this sounds quite strange, bikes are always hard to pedal up a hill for example. A road bike will not help this, what size is your MTB and what is your inseam and arm/torso length? Why not get a shorter stem on the MTB to bring your position back a little and more upright?
