I test rode a Specialized Sequoia and I really liked the bike too. It's a comfort oriented road bike, but it still felt pretty "snappy". I didn't notice the slow shifting that you experienced. Ignorance is bliss as far as bikes. Go and test ride a Felt F75 and tell me how it differs from the Sequoia. You just might end up having to be saving up for a much longer time....
