You can fit a 28-tooth cog inside one of the "hockey stick" chain guards if you loosen the band clamp that holds it to the seat stay at the back and move it up a little bit.

So you mean you could take a cog from an old 10 speed grouping and then modify it and it will fit the SA AW?

If so, how do you go about removing a single cog from a grouping? I have an old Japanese 10 speed around with an apparently damage rear wheel. I wonder if I could get a cog from that.

Edit: the more I think about this approach, the less I like it. But how difficult would it be if I decide to change my mind and try it? I believe the parts are Suntour Honor parts.
