I think the Caliente was from their Mississipi-built era. Sadly for us, one of their mistakes might have been to remain committed to American manufacturing as they got slaughtered by lower-cost Asian competition. The Caliente was the entry-level 'racing' bike, the '80's version of the Varsity.
When Schwinn was owned and run by Schwinns, you could count on the frame strength being best in class. I wouldn't be afraid to ride it anywhere. I am not a thrill seeker though ... ymmv.
that would actually be cool if it WAS from Mississippi (i grew up there...go Dawgs!), but it does say "Made in China for Schwinn Bicycle Company"
good to know that it was (at least) a 'racing' bike...
